project presentation reflection :(

a few things that we feel after the presentation...sad, dissapointed, angry.. a'lil bit happy

good news first..we feel a little bit happy after the project presentation because that is the end of all the projects and presentations...so our shoulders are so so much lighter now as we can concentrate on the exams..but i'm sure to take a few days rest...it like this sem is the most stressfull sem i have gone through all my life..so many projects, reports and presentations to kao tim..there is even a point when all of us have only 2 hrs sleep a day..and it goes on for 3 days like that..luckily we started early and have a time table so keep track on what need to do for which project and luckily i have very good project mates..cause we really work through thick and thin in this sem..lol..soo...you can understand why we are a little happy after the kms presentation.

now............................for the sad, angry and dissapointed...i am going to be straight forward here..

first..we are not happy with ourselves as our presentation slides are too many..so this leads in not being able to complete the whole presentation as we have skipped a few slides as time are running out..

next is that i know that our group is the last to present..which means that our grp is the last chance for the rest to gain the indvl points....but that doesnt means that we can be bombarded with questions that always sounds the same...haiz..i know that.. that is question and answer session..but i feel that the audience are actually repeating the same qns that irrate us..as i can also feel that pris is already stress up with the audience and also the presentation..i feel that the audience should ask constructive question and not ask again when some of the other audience actually asked that question already..

so thats my whole reflection.......................

.: * Reflection on KMS Project *:.

so i am going to do a reflection on the kms project

our topic we are doing is Enterprise Portal..where we choose Vignet portal and Oracle AS 10g portal to study on for our project..

the first time we show miss teo our project, which is the project draft..we are quite dissapointed with the grades..cause we are almost done with our project when we show the draft.. so when miss teo says our draft now is around a C grade..you can see the dissapointment in us...but....miss teo feedback to us saying that our project surrently is a bit broad and brief..so if we change a bit like focusing in on some parts..we could get an A..so that brightens up our spirits..hee..she also go through with the yellow paper on which part we have yet to do and which we have done...she also brief us on her marking scheme and how she marks the project..so that helps us alot too as we know which part to eleborate more..

so the next time we do the project..we redo some parts of it like the customer's testimonials, the features and benefits and the comparison..

my part in the project is finding what is enterprise portal and the basic types of it, introduction to the 2 products and also the reason for forcusing on the 2 products. i also help out in the comparison of the 2 products and also the features and benefit of Vignette portal. i also do the customer testimonial on Oracle for the draft....yeah..so i think all of us share the work equally and not only that..we help each other out like if we do not know how to do some part..then some of us will help..cause overall..this is our project and it concerns our grades..we also have fun with each other..like meeting up in msn to have project meeting or conferencing to deligate our part which we need to do..i do enjoy doing this project...

hope the efforts Azure put in will be paid off in getting good project marks!!!..for exam wise..lets Ganbatte Ishionii!! (together work hard)

blog it [something useful we learnt in KMS]

There are quite a few topics that i found useful and also nice to read...

for example, the SECI model..where there are 2 types of knowledge: tacit and explicit
and how we can knowledge. for example: socialisation (learnt by apprenticeship or talking to each other where face to face is important as there are not all knowledge where it can be put into words..)
Externalization: type into a manual, what we knoe in our head, we write down in a book to share the knowledge. Dialogue with teams and answer qns. Dialogue is impt
Combination: involves the conversion of explicit knowledge into more complex sets of explicit knowledge. Email a report. Go through analysis and restructuring. Discard the manual and create a new one full of stories, diagrams and metaphors. Integrate and make sense out of the existing explicit knowledge.
Internalization: read from books/reports to gain knowledge (practice), provide opportunity for learning by doing. Eg: learn French.

next thing i found interesting is the codification strategy and personalisation strategy.
Codification Strategy: Knowledge is carefully codified and stored in databases, where it can be accessed and used easily by anyone in the company. When everything is turn to explicit
Personalization Strategy: Knowledge is closely tied to the person who developed it and is shared mainly through direct person-to-person contacts. (tacit-tacit)

it is quite fun to choose which company suits which strategy depending on their company and also that choosing the wrong strategy can actually make the company loses alot of money.

another thing i found useful is the MS SQL 2005 server..i have learnt what data mining is about and the features of SQL where it can be used for data mining. Though we have learnt a bit on the software, we really need to install it and try it out and explore ourself to really know how to use it. SQL is also very organised in keeping the data..not only that, we can have a chart or graph from the data there. SQL is also used in companies, so if we really know how to use SQL, we can say when getting a job that we used it before.

blog it

Reflection on Data Mining experience, and the advantages and disadvantages of data mining.

I did not install SQL as there is only 2 Gb left in my C-drive..so when i went to class, i'm shocked that there are quite lot of them who also did not install SQL..so some of the classmates took turns to show data mining using SQL. After Wu Feng finish showing to the class his part, i gave a brief summary on what he have done previously.

Advantages of data mining
  • eliminates data movement
  • speeds data mining
  • simplifies model deployment
  • delivers security and scalability.

Disadvantages of data mining

  • higher cost
  • reduced flexibility (some more advanced algorithms may be more difficult to implement in a database)

this lecture is ok..not really that taxing on the brain and easier to understand..

Data Mining II [e-learning]

This week is e-learning week...

we need to watch the video on data mining using MS SQL 2005 server. The video is in two parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the data mining features on MS SQL 2005 and the second part is a demonstration of data mining using MS SQL 2005 server

we then do a quiz on MS SQL 2005 Server

Data Mining

What is Data Mining
Finding that single piece of intelligence your business needs in the large data warehouse that you have builtup over a long period if time.
–Multiple disciplines: database, statistics, artificial intelligence

Why use Data Mining?

  • User is searching for answers to questions he/she did not know to ask
  • Data warehouse can tell the business where the interesting patterns, relationships, and “hot spots” are
  • Find the “unknown answer”

What does Data Mining do?

  • Explores your data
  • Finds patterns
  • Perform predictions

Data Mining use in Business

  • Customer profiling
    - Identifying those subsets of customers that are most profitable to the business
  • Targeting
    - Determining the characteristics of profitable customers who have been captured by competitors
  • Market-basket analysis
    - Determining product purchases by consumers, which can be used for product positioning and for cross-selling

The Baseline Pyramid

KD: Knowledge Discovery ( No Hypothesis) <--Most Complex
Modeling Segmentation (Mild Hypothesis)
Multidimensional (Moderate Hypothesis )
Standard Queries (Strong Hypothesis) <--Least Complex

Data Storage

•Data Warehouse
–A large-scale data storage system designed to contain complete and clean data that can be accessed efficiently.
•Data Mart
–A database system used to extract a subset of data from a data warehouse so that it can be used for a data mining application
•Online analytic processing (OLAP)
–Tools for accessing databases with the intent of providing users with a multidimensional display of information.

Enterprise Portal video

The video talks about the IBM Websphere Portal

It increases productivity by offering a single point of personalised access to applications, content and people.

The portal is flexible, open and extensible framework for building an on demand infrastructure

I learnt that we need to have an authorised username and password in order to log in to the portal.

There is also a function of people finder which i found quite useful of portal. We can just type out the surname under the search and the portal will show the people with the surname and you can select it. We can also view the person's profile.

week 6 (e-learning)

Miss JAmie goes to school....

some explicit knowledge she found in NP

  • Staff Intranet
  • Library
  • Mel

The k-space model suggests that students’ course knowledge may be enhanced by enabling and facilitating availability, sharing and finding of relevant information, as well as learning by doing.

WHAT

  • EXPLICIT
    [Availability of knowledge]
    -Questions & answers
    -Classifying summaries
    -Search facilities
  • TACIT
    [Sharing of knowledge]
    -Discussion forums
    -Announcements
    -News

HOW

  • EXPLICIT
    [Finding of Knowledge]
    -Lecture Notes
    -Relevant Resources
    -Databases
  • TACIT
    [Learning by doing]
    -Assignments / Tutorials
    -Online video & streaming
    -Feed-back / guidance

Explicit-What k-Tools
•Knowledge repositories
•Provide students with relevant information that can they absorb, interpret and hence turn into new and valuable knowledge.
e.g Lecture Notes aid in learning specific topics and increase overall knowledge of the subject

Explicit-How k-Tools
•Enable students to search information on their own terms, as knowledge repositories can often create difficulties for students in extracting what they need, due to the diversity and ambiguity of information.
e.g. Search engine is a means of access to what students are looking for. It allows students to gain knowledge on relevant topics quickly, whether they are looking for course content or trying to find the details of a staff member.

Tacit-What k-Tools
•Sharing of information tools.
•To encourage both students and staff to interact with one another.
e.g. Discussion Forums allow students to interact with each other. Allows students to post questions regarding assignments, exams or even general queries in relation to the subject, thus allowing them to transfer and acquire knowledge amongst themselves.

Tacit-How k-Tools

•Enable students to learn by doing.
•Through personal experience, they allow students to develop instincts, abilities, intuition and expertise concerning the subject.
e.g. Online Quizzes allow students to progress through the subject and acquire knowledge at their own pace by allowing them to participate in theses quizzed in the comfort of their own home and in their own time.

What is e-learning?
•Delivery of learning via internet
•Primary asynchronous (non real-time)
•Often misunderstood as:
–Live web-cast
–Knowledge portal or repository
•Courseware is either “off the shelf” from a company that sells courses, or it is custom-designed
•A learning method, not a software product
–Technology-enabled
–Not designed IT departments or engineers

Benefits
•Improve students’ achievement, their attitudes toward learning, and their evaluation of the learning experience
•Increase teacher/student interaction and to make learning more student-centred
•Eliminate geographical barriers while providing increased convenience, flexibility, currency of material, retention of students, individual learning and feedback over traditional classrooms

Disadvantage
•Students feelings of isolation, frustration, anxiety and confusion
•Reduced interest in the subject matter and questionable learner achievement

Reflection:

this lec is quite fun, as there are alot of pictures. We also get to find out that NP mel is actually lurved by many people because it is user friendly...
